Bach Cello Suites Available on Cleveland Orchestra’s Adella Streaming Platform
Beginning February 25 at 7pm EST, the Cleveland Orchestra presents a recital performance of Alisa Weilerstein playing Bach’s complete cycle of Solo Cello Suites recorded live at Severance Hall in January 2021.
These six pieces, written from 1717-1723 for Bach’s own use, were rediscovered in the 20th century to become one of the greatest and most-loved works for cello — showcasing a player’s artistry in a journey across a range and depth of emotions. Alisa returns to Cleveland, an artistic home where she spent many formative years as a young musician.
In addition to her performance of the Bach Suites, the webcast also includes behind-the-scenes interviews with Alisa, as well as with her former teacher Richard Weiss and Cleveland Orchestra’s Chief Artistic Director Mark Williams.
Reflecting on her life as a musician, Alisa shares “One of the reasons that I became a musician is that I feel the music expresses emotion much more clearly, much more directly, and much more profoundly than words do. It’s the clearest, most direct form of communication that humans have.”
