Alisa Weilerstein presents Matthias Pintscher’s new cello concerto, Un despertar (An Awakening), with Copenhagen’s DR SymfoniOrkestret under the composer’s own direction.

Two seasons ago, Alisa played the world premiere of Pintscher’s piece in three performances with the Boston Symphony and François-Xavier Roth, and reprised it this past spring with the co-commissioning Danish Radio Symphony. Alisa plays the piece again this season with the composer and the Cincinnati Symphony (April 27 & 28, 2019).

Pintscher describes the tonal quality of Un despertar as being derived from the dark, warm singing of a male human voice, and took his inspiration from “this unbelievably lyrical dark gold which [Weilerstein] has within her playing.”
