Alisa Weilerstein’s January/February 2026 Highlights


To kick off the year, Alisa will perform Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto with the Palm Beach Symphony (Jan 13). In Europe, she plays the Britten Cello Symphony with Alan Gilbert leading his own NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra (Jan 22–25) and a recital of Brahms and Prokofiev with Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov in Wigmore Hall (Jan 26). Alisa will then travel to Spain to perform the Lutosławski Cello Concerto with the Spanish National Orchestra under the baton of Krzysztof Urbański (Jan 30–Feb 1)

She returns to the Detroit Symphony for performances of Joan Tower’s A New Day, a piece co-commissioned by the orchestra, conducted by Music Director Jader Bignamini (Feb 13–15).

Spring Preview 2023


Weilerstein looks forward to concerto performances of Strauss’s Don Quixote with the Montreal Symphony led by Rafael Payare (April 26 & 27); Barber’s Cello Concerto with the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst(May 4 & 6); Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 2 with the Dresden Philharmonic and Thomas Dausgaard (June 10 & 11); and Ligeti’s Cello Concerto with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony led by Jakub Hrůša (June 14–16).

“In August, MacArthur Grant-winning cellist Alisa Weilerstein, along with conductor Roderick Cox, joins the orchestra for Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1. Also on the program are Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and George Walker’s Lyric for Strings (Aug 6). There will be pre-concert talks with the artists before both performances.”
