A dedicated chamber artist, this winter Alisa partners with the Ariel Quartet for programs juxtaposing Schubert’s String Quintet in C with original folk-themed works and transcriptions, in concerts presented by the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (Dec 12) and the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (Dec 15).

Critics have praised Alisa Weilerstein’s “Bach Cello Suites” album, which was released on Pentatone earlier this spring. The Guardian’s Erica Jeal reviewed the album, saying:
“The exceptional cellist’s music emerges with sunlit clarity in … a performance that unfolds at its own pace and in its own space, inward-looking yet confident – one captured at exactly the right time.
On April 3, Pentatone released Alisa Weilerstein’s recording of the complete Bach Cello Suites.
One of the crowning glories of the classical canon, Bach’s suites have long been featured in Alisa’s programming and have come to play an increasingly central part in her career. The LA Times has called her interpretations of Bach, “a true model of the meaning of mastery when it comes to what a string instrument is capable of.”
As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Alisa has channeled her deep love and appreciation for Bach into a 36-day long project called #36DaysofBach.
