Alisa Weilerstein’s January/February 2026 Highlights


To kick off the year, Alisa will perform Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto with the Palm Beach Symphony (Jan 13). In Europe, she plays the Britten Cello Symphony with Alan Gilbert leading his own NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra (Jan 22–25) and a recital of Brahms and Prokofiev with Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov in Wigmore Hall (Jan 26). Alisa will then travel to Spain to perform the Lutosławski Cello Concerto with the Spanish National Orchestra under the baton of Krzysztof Urbański (Jan 30–Feb 1)

She returns to the Detroit Symphony for performances of Joan Tower’s A New Day, a piece co-commissioned by the orchestra, conducted by Music Director Jader Bignamini (Feb 13–15).

A Cellist Breaks Music Into ‘Fragments,’ Then Connects Them


Alisa Weilerstein’s latest project is a series of staged solo recitals that weave Bach’s cello suites with newly commissioned works.

Meet “Fragments,” a project whose first installment — of six — Weilerstein will perform at Zankel Hall on April 1. Certain aspects of it may be familiar. She will be there, playing solo. She will perform a Bach suite in its entirety, and she will play it with her typical, heartfelt passion.

Alisa Weilerstein Performs FRAGMENTS Cleveland


After opening her spring season with a presentation of the first installment of her major new multisensory performance series, “FRAGMENTS,” in Carnegie Hall, MacArthur award-winning cellist Alisa Weilerstein takes the piece to the Severance Music Center’s Mandel Concert Hall in Cleveland (May 11). Perhaps her most ambitious and personal project to date, the new solo cello series sees her weave together the 36 movements of Bach’s solo cello suites with 27 new commissions to make six programs, each an hour long, for solo cello.
