Alisa and Inon Barnatan Perform at Carnegie Hall, premiering new work by Steven Mackey

Alisa Weilerstein and recital partner Inon Barnatan perform at Carnegie Hall on October 17 in a program that includes the world premiere Steven Mackey’s Through Your Fingers. Co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall, Through Your Fingers is presented as part of Carnegie Hall’s 125 Commissions Project.

On his process for composing Through Your Fingers, Mackey states: “Writing for Alisa and Inon appealed to me precisely because of the potential—if not necessity—of doing something more intimate and detailed than the orchestral music and quartets I’ve composed over the past 20 years. It is a different kind of process to create material that two individuals will communicate as if speaking directly to the audience, as opposed to creating a large soundscape that the audience inhabits.”

Also on the program is Mendelssohn’s Cello Sonata No. 2 in D Major, Britten’s Cello Sonata, and Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata.
