Bach Cello Suites Nominated for 2021 Gramophone Awards


Alisa Weilerstein’s Bach: Six Cello Suites is nominated for the 2021 Gramophone Awards (Instrumental). Of the 72 recordings selected for the magazine’s shortlist, one album will be selected in each of the 11 categories. A final winner will be named “Recording of the Year” on October 5.  

The album has been referent to as “a true model of the meaning of mastery when it comes to what a string instrument is capable of” (LA Times) and Weilerstein’s “carefully considered” interpretation “brings a highly expressive performance” (Classic Review). Gramophone critic Rob Cowan praises Weilerstein’s “remarkable” recording and “impressive presence,” highlighting her “comprehensive understanding of what she plays, be it the intensity of the Fourth Suite, the balletic grandeur of the Sixth or the tragic demeanor of the Fifth.”
