2019 Transfigured Nights US & Europe Tour

In the coming months, Alisa Weilerstein returns to Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), following the 2018 release of the eponymous album on PENTATONE. She tours Europe and the U.S. with pianist and frequent collaborator Inon Barnatan, violinist Sergey Khachatryan, and percussionists Colin Currie, Sam Walton and Owen Gunnell.

While the recording features the string orchestra transcription of Verklärte Nacht (performed by the Trondheim Soloists), this tour program highlights the piano trio version, made by Schoenberg’s composition student, Eduard Steuermann. Rounding out the performances are Beethoven’s “Ghost” Piano Trio and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15, in an arrangement for piano trio and three percussionists by pianist Victor Derevianko.

Alisa and her collaborators begin performances in Europe in February. On February 8, they perform at Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw. They also perform in the UK in Saffron Walden (Saffron Hall, February 9) and in London (Wigmore Hall, February 11).

Later this May, Alisa reunites with Barnatan, Khachatryan, and Currie in the US. They reprise the program in Chicago (May 6), Norfolk, VA (May 8), Washington, DC (May 9), and Kansas City (May 10).
